Fly tying session #3: Dick Nicklas will lead the session giving a demonstration of tying an ‘After-Shaft’ Hare’s Ear nymph. The fly tying recipe details are listed below. Lunch is available for purchase at the Eagles. Bring your vise and fly tying materials or just come to watch and socialize.
Materials for After-Shaft Hare’s Ear:
Hook: #10 curved shank hook (Daiichi 1270, Tiemco 200R, etc.)
Thread: Black or Brown
Dubbing wax
Non-lead wire: .020 or .025 weight
Tail: pheasant rump feather
Rib: small gold tinsel or wire
Abdomen: Hare’s Ear or other tan dubbing
Hackle: Pheasant after-shaft feather (aka filo plume feather). This is the small, fuzzy feather attached to the stem a pheasant rump feather. If this is confusing, just bring a few rump feathers.
